Desperation Kills

The gravity pulled my body to the floor, and the phone slipped from my hand. I breathed hard for a second, then suddenly picked up the phone as my life depended on it—it’s not true, I kept telling myself. It couldn’t be true. I kept texting to the other side, though I didn’t receive any message I still kept trying. The phone was so cold under the air conditioner, but I threw it off and burst into tears as it was the fire that burnt my hands.

I will never receive her message again, I finally realized. I will never.
